Woman Crush Wednesday! This week goes out to a VERY special person in my life! It’s October which is Breast Cancer Awareness month and so I want to honor a breast cancer survivor who just so happens to be my best friend and most importantly my mom, Becky Pepp.
My mom found out she had cancer while going through all the testing required to give a kidney to her best friends husband. Just goes to show you, that there is a reason for everything and without my mom having the heart of gold she has and preparing to do something wonderful for someone else, she wouldn't have found her cancer so early and might not have been able to get it taken care of immediately. God watches out for those who selflessly give to others.
Needless to say, they found the cancer so early that they were able to get rid of it completely with a double mastectomy and without chemo. She took a few weeks of recovery and before I knew it we were back to normal life. It was the scariest few months of my life, and I am sure hers as well, but she continued to be the pillar of strength she always has been and we took the recovery time to binge watch scandal and spend some quality time together.
My mom is my biggest source of inspiration, to live happy, always follow my heart, and not sweat the small stuff. I struggle everyday and she is always there for encouragement and wise words. I catch myself getting overwhelmed with my 2 kids, keeping my house clean, staying up to date with Ivy’s homework, eating right, working out, blogging, my relationship with Derek and I wonder HOW did my mom do what she did. She raised 4 kids without any “thank you’s” or appreciation for many years. She got through a breakup of 15 years yet never once did she stay in bed all day, never once did she let us see her hurting. Instead, she picked herself up, went back to school while working full time, supporting 4 kids, and became and ultrasound technician. WOW. All I can say is wow. I don't know how she did it, but I know she did and I hope and pray I can become half the woman that my mother is!
